  1. A sediment is any loose material that has 
  2. `settled', deposited from suspension in 
  3. water, ice, or air, generally as the water 
  4. current or wind speed decreases. Sediments 
  5. differ from sedimentary rocks in which 
  6. deposits are fused together in a solid mass 
  7. of rock by a process called diagenesis.
